October Detox

“Pre-party” October:
This October I’m making it my personal challenge to begin to detox both my mind and body while getting more in touch with the spirit. The last week of September was a flow prep, and I used that week to get outside more, research some potential plans, and get motivated and mentally prepared.

I’m currently on day four of week one (because I started October first, the week “begins” on Saturday) which is the beginning week in which I have cut out caffeine. I’ve had no obvious lapses- I’ve had no coffee or espresso or any caffeinated teas- however, I have had chocolate. I’m realizing these past couple days that chocolate is a lot like a gateway for me to my two favorite things to abuse in my diet: caffeine and sugar.

From this point on in my program I am eliminating chocolate for the remainder of this week; even minute caffeine may have an affect. I’ve found it interesting to realize how much I normally do go to caffeine as a pick me up or a self-soother, and it’s been just noticeable enough that I think it was a legitimate choice to start with and to prepare me for what I feel will be a much harder week, which is to cut out sugar.

I have a lot of studying to do today and though now I’ve experienced a work day at a coffee shop with no coffee, now I’m going to apply it to a more personal area of my life and have a study day with no coffee. I do feel a little more clear in my focus than I have in awhile this morning. I am unsure if it is actually from eliminating caffeine or if it’s from the confidence gained with following through with something, but either way it is uplifting.

"The meaning of your life depends on which ideas you permit to use you. Who you think you are determines where you put your attention. Where you direct your attention creates your life experiences, and brings a new course of events into being. Where you habitually put your attention is what you worship. What do you worship in this mindstream called your life?"
